Jasmine Tea
About this recipe
A timeless, fragrant cup of jasmine tea brewed to perfection. Made by steeping jasmine-scented green tea leaves in gently heated water — not boiling — to preserve the delicate floral aroma and avoid bitterness. Simple, soothing, and endlessly comforting, this classic recipe yields a beautifully clear, golden cup every time.
Instructions
- 1
Heat filtered water in a kettle or saucepan until it reaches ![175–185°F]. If you don't have a meat thermometer, bring water to a full boil, then let it rest off the heat for 2–3 minutes — this drops it to the ideal temperature. Using water that is too hot will scorch the delicate jasmine tea and make it bitter.
- 2
If using loose-leaf jasmine tea, place a tea infuser or colander into your pot or mug and add 1 teaspoon of jasmine tea leaves per cup. If using tea bags, place one bag per cup directly in the vessel.
- 3
Pour the heated water over the jasmine tea leaves or bags. Steep for 2–3 minutes. Start tasting at 2 minutes — the jasmine tea should be floral, golden, and lightly sweet. Do not steep longer than 3–4 minutes or the jasmine tea may become bitter.
- 4
Remove the tea infuser, colander, or tea bags. Do not squeeze the bags, as this releases bitter tannins into the cup.
- 5
If desired, stir in a small amount of honey while the jasmine tea is still warm. Serve immediately with a thin slice of fresh lemon on the rim of the cup, if using.
