  • 1–2 min

Chill your rocks glass by filling it with 1 large ice cube one large 2-inch cube water and letting it sit for 1–2 minutes while you prepare the cocktail. Dump the water and 1 large ice cube one large 2-inch cube before building the drink.

Uses

  • Rocks Glass
  • Ice

In a mixing bowl, combine the 1 tsp simple syrup (or 1 sugar cube dissolved in a few drops of water) and both 2 dashes Angostura bitters and 1 dash orange bitters optional but recommended. If using a 1 sugar cube dissolved in a few drops of water, add 3–4 drops of water and muddle the cube until it fully dissolves — do not skip this step or you'll get a gritty drink.

Add the 2 oz rye whiskey to the mixing bowl. Fill the mixing bowl with 1 large ice cube one large 2-inch cube (standard cubes are fine here).

  • 1–1 min

Stir steadily with a bar spoon for 30–45 seconds — about 40–50 rotations. You want the drink well-chilled and properly diluted. Stirring (not shaking) keeps it silky and clear.

Uses

  • Bar Spoon

Place your 1 large ice cube one large 2-inch cube (or a few standard 1 large ice cube one large 2-inch cube) into the chilled rocks glass. Strain the cocktail over the 1 large ice cube one large 2-inch cube using a colander or colander.

  • Colander

To express the 1 piece orange peel a 2-3 inch strip: hold the strip of peel skin-side down over the glass and give it a firm twist/squeeze to release the oils — you should see a fine mist spray across the surface of the drink. Run the peel around the rim of the glass, then drop it in or drape it over the 1 large ice cube one large 2-inch cube.

  • Orange Peel

Add a 1 piece cocktail cherry Luxardo if desired. Serve immediately and enjoy.
