Instructions

Spoon 2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk adjust into the bottom of a tall glass (Large). Set aside.

Uses

  • Glass (Large)
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 200°F

Heat ¾ cup hot water just off the boil to just off the boil (around 200°F). Avoid using boiling ¾ cup hot water just off the boil directly — it can over-extract and turn the 3 tbsp Vietnamese ground coffee Trung Nguyen or Café Du Monde recommended harsh.

Uses

  • Water
  • Vietnamese Coffee

Set your Vietnamese phin filter on top of the glass (Large) (over the 2 tbsp sweetened condensed milk adjust). Remove the inner press plate and add 3 tablespoons of Vietnamese ground coffee Trung Nguyen or Café Du Monde recommended to the filter chamber. Shake gently to level the grounds, then place the press plate on top and press down lightly — just until you feel slight resistance. Do not pack tightly.

Uses

  • Glass (Large)
  • Vietnamese Coffee
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 1–1 min

Pour about 1 tablespoon of hot water just off the boil over the grounds to 'bloom' them. Wait 20–30 seconds — you'll see the grounds puff up slightly and absorb the ¾ cup hot water just off the boil. This releases CO₂ and primes the 3 tbsp Vietnamese ground coffee Trung Nguyen or Café Du Monde recommended for even extraction.

Uses

  • Water
  • Vietnamese Coffee
  • 4–6 min

Slowly pour the remaining hot water just off the boil into the phin filter until it reaches just below the rim. Place the outer lid on top to retain heat. Let the 3 tbsp Vietnamese ground coffee Trung Nguyen or Café Du Monde recommended drip through at its own pace — this should take 4 to 6 minutes. If it drips faster than 3 minutes, press the plate slightly firmer next time. If it takes longer than 8 minutes, press lighter.

Uses

  • Water
  • Vietnamese Coffee

Once all the Vietnamese ground coffee Trung Nguyen or Café Du Monde recommended has dripped through, remove the phin filter and set it aside. You should have about ¼ to ⅓ cup of intensely dark, concentrated 3 tbsp Vietnamese ground coffee Trung Nguyen or Café Du Monde recommended sitting on top of the sweetened condensed milk adjust.

Uses

  • Vietnamese Coffee
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk

Stir the 3 tbsp Vietnamese ground coffee Trung Nguyen or Café Du Monde recommended and 2 tbsp sweetened condensed milk adjust together vigorously until fully combined and the 2 tbsp sweetened condensed milk adjust has dissolved completely into the 3 tbsp Vietnamese ground coffee Trung Nguyen or Café Du Monde recommended.

Uses

  • Vietnamese Coffee
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk

Fill a separate large glass (Large) with 1 cup ice large cubes preferred to slow dilution. Pour the 3 tbsp Vietnamese ground coffee Trung Nguyen or Café Du Monde recommended mixture over the 1 cup ice large cubes preferred to slow dilution, stir once more, and serve immediately. Taste and add more 2 tbsp sweetened condensed milk adjust if you prefer it sweeter.
