Grab & Cook

Beta · Household cooking

Grab what you have. We'll find the recipe.

Grab & Cook turns the ingredients on your counter into ranked ideas from your cookbook, Explore, or a custom draft — so dinner starts from the open fridge, not a blank search box.

Ideas stream in as matches score — type leftovers or snap the fridge, no long wait

The problem

Recipe search assumes you already know what you want

Most nights start with an open fridge and a short list of leftovers — not a dish name. Grab & Cook flips the search so ingredients lead and recipes follow.

Staring into the fridge

You know what you have. You do not know what it becomes in thirty minutes.

Typing dish names into a void

Search boxes want “chicken parm,” not “thighs, rice, half a pepper.”

Ordering takeout again

Not because you had nothing — because matching it felt like homework.

Where it earns its place

Not every dinner needs a fridge photo. These are the nights that do.

A fridge full of almost-meals

Chicken, rice, and a lonely pepper are not a recipe name. Grab & Cook starts from that pile instead of asking you to invent one.

A cookbook you forgot you had

Homii ranks the recipes already saved for your household before it goes hunting elsewhere — so Tuesday favorites show up first.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Grab what you have

Type leftovers or snap the fridge. Set a time budget, preferred equipment, and whether you want a main, side, or snack.

  2. Step 2

Homii ranks what you can cook

Cookbook matches first, then Explore when you need more ideas — each one scored on what it uses from your list and on how much of it you already have.

  3. Step 3

Cook this — or create a custom draft

Open a match in cook mode, refine the batch, or save a Made-for-you draft into your household cookbook.

Ideas before you finish typing

Grab & Cook is built for the open-fridge deadline — not a loading spinner while you stand there. Matches score in as soon as ingredients land, then Explore and Made-for-you fill the gaps.

  • Ingredient chips appear as you type or snap
  • Cookbook fit scores stream in progressively
  • Explore backfill widens when the box is thin
  • Made-for-you arrives last — never blocks the list

Type it, snap it, or both

Fridge photos are compressed on your device, resolved once, and reused when you refine — so you are not re-uploading megabytes every time you say “lighter” or “no dairy.”

  • Natural lists: commas, “and”, or new lines
  • Up to five fridge photos per search
  • Time, equipment, and course preferences
  • Refine without losing your snaps

Built for the open fridge, not the blank search box

Grab & Cook starts from ingredients you already have — typed or photographed — and works outward to recipes you can actually finish tonight, instead of making you invent a dish name first.

FAQ

Do I have to type every ingredient?

No. Type a short list, snap a photo of the fridge, or do both. Photos survive when you edit the search, so you can refine without re-shooting.

Does it only search my cookbook?

Your cookbook comes first. If Homii does not find enough strong matches, it widens into Explore and can draft a Made-for-you recipe from what you have on hand.

What does the badge on each card mean?

It is how much of the recipe you already have — "3 of 5" means three of its five main ingredients are on hand, and a check means none are missing. Anything still needed is listed on the card. Everyday staples like salt, oil, and garlic are not counted either way.

Will it suggest recipes I can't actually make?

No. A recipe has to genuinely use something you named — matching only your salt does not count — and it has to be one you could cook tonight rather than a shopping trip. Anything with a gap tells you exactly what is missing instead of hiding it behind a match score.

What is a Made-for-you idea?

A custom draft researched from your ingredients when the cookbook and catalog are thin. You can create it into a full recipe in your cookbook; directions may change slightly after the full research pass.

Can I refine the results?

Yes — up to three refinements per search (lighter, no dairy, kid-friendly, and free text). Your fridge photos stay attached so you are not starting over.
