Frozen Hot Chocolate
About this recipe
The ultimate viral frozen hot chocolate — thick, creamy, and intensely chocolatey, blended with ice into a frosty, milkshake-like drink that tastes just like a rich cup of hot cocoa in frozen form. Topped with a mountain of whipped cream and chocolate shavings, this Serendipity 3-inspired classic is the most indulgent frozen dessert drink you'll ever make at home.
Instructions
- 1
Place the chopped semi-sweet chocolate in a small mixing bowl. In a small saucepan over ^[low heat], whisk together the unsweetened cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and hot water until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is smooth, about 1–2 minutes. Pour the hot cocoa mixture over the chopped chocolate and let sit for 30 seconds, then stir until the semi-sweet chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is glossy. Let cool to room temperature (about 5 minutes).
- 2
Add the cooled chocolate base to a blender along with the cold milk, heavy cream, and pure vanilla extract. Blend on low for a few seconds to combine. Add the ice and blend on high until completely smooth and thick — the consistency should resemble a thick milkshake. If it's too thin, add a few more ice cubes and blend again.
- 3
Pour the frozen hot chocolate into two tall glasses. Pile a generous mound of whipped cream on top of each glass — don't be shy, the more the better! Finish with chocolate shavings or chocolate shavings for garnish.
- 4
Serve immediately with a wide straw or a long spoon. Enjoy right away — the drink is best consumed fresh before the ice begins to melt.
