Heat the 2 tbsp olive oil in a large Dutch oven or heavy-bottomed pot over medium-high heat. Add the 1 lb Italian sausage sweet and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 5–6 minutes. If there is excess grease, drain all but about 1 tbsp.

Reduce heat to medium. Add the diced medium yellow onion, 3 stalks celery, and 2 medium carrots peeled and diced to the pot. Sauté, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened, about 5–7 minutes. Add the 5 cloves garlic minced and 2 tbsp tomato paste and cook for 1 more minute until fragrant.

Pour in the 1 can diced tomatoes (with their juices) and 6 cups chicken broth low-sodium preferred. Stir in the 1 ½ tsp Italian seasoning, ½ tsp red pepper flakes (if using), 1 tsp kosher salt, and ½ tsp black pepper. Add the drained cannellini beans. Bring the soup to a boil over high heat.

Once boiling, stir in the dry 1 cup ditalini pasta. Reduce heat to a steady simmer and cook uncovered, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking, until the pasta is al dente, about 8–10 minutes.
